Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment is the nodal Ministry responsible for welfare of the Senior Citizens. It has framed the National Policy on Older Persons covering all concerns pertaining to the welfare of older persons. Presently Shri Thaawarchand Gehlot, is the Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment and 3 Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment namely Shri Krishan Pal Gurjar, Shri Ramdas Athawale, Shri Rattan Lal Kataria
The Department of Social Justice & Empowerment is entrusted with the empowerment of the disadvantaged and marginalized sections of the society. The target groups of the Ministry are:
- Senior Citizens
- Scheduled Castes
- Other Backward Classes
- Victims of Substance Abuse
- Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes
- Beggars and
- Transgender
The Ministry has been implementing various programmes/schemes for social, educational and economic development of the target groups. As a result there has been considerable improvement in the welfare of these groups.
